Position Summary:
Come spend summer and fall in Vermont! Vermont Law School invites applications for Visiting Professor(s) to teach first year students in both the summer Accelerated JD (AJD) program and the traditional fall semester beginning in May 2022. Teaching needs include Contracts, Torts, Legislation and Regulation, and Criminal Law. This is a non-tenure-track appointment. Applications received by March 28, 2022, will receive first consideration.
Essential Functions and Principal Accountabilities:
- Responsible for teaching one first year course in the summer and two courses in the fall (courses are subject to negotiation, based on the curricular needs of the Law School and the interests of the candidates).
- Coach and mentor students in learning, both inside and outside of the classroom.
- Provide timely feedback in the form of assessments, grading, and other requested formats by using appropriate campus-provided technology.
- Follows guidelines, policies, and procedures as outlined in the VLS Faculty Handbook including the faculty workload policy and the credit hours policy.
Requirements
Required Education, Skills and Experience:
- ABA-accredited J.D. law degree.
- Experience that demonstrates the ability to effectively teach students, such as prior teaching experience as an adjunct professor, guest lecturer, or other equivalent experience teaching/supervising law students in an academic context, or relevant practice experience.
- Understanding of, appreciation for, and commitment to inclusion, including the ability to work with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds, identities, and viewpoints.
- Enthusiasm for working with law students, especially with first year students.
- A demonstrated commitment to scholarship.
- Strong legal analysis skills.
- Excellent writing ability.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (365) programs.
- Experience using Canvas preferred.
- Willingness to teach in new Hybrid JD program.

- Adaptability and Flexibility - Must be able to adapt to new and emerging technology as established and communicated by the law school to carry out the administrative duties associated with teaching. Willingness and ability to work remotely in emergency situations.
- Service - Faculty and staff at Vermont law school provide service to students, the community, and one another through service on committees and appropriate volunteer opportunities both on-and off-campus.
- Scholarship - Faculty at Vermont Law School are encouraged to pursue research and scholarship opportunities as a critical part of their own continuous learning process.
- Safety - Willingness to participate with the Vermont Law School faculty and student community and follow Covid19 safety policies and guidelines as laid out by the One VLS Action Team based on the changing landscape of the Covid19 pandemic.
- Must be able to work legally within the United States without sponsorship.
- Physical ability to perform all essential functions of the job with or without basic accommodations.
